Unreal Engine the engine behind the 3D marketplace
The story

Where AI came into my work.

I founded VIRTUALhaus in 2018 and ran product until 2022. VIRTUALhaus was a 3D marketplace for building products, built on Unreal Engine.

In 2019 we worked with Merantix Labs in Berlin on an early prototype. The prototype turned 2D floor plans into 3D models, with material takeoffs and estimates. That work brought AI into my practice.

VIRTUALhaus reached a working product in internal testing. The company wound down when follow-on funding dried up.

What I did

Three parts.

A 3D marketplace

Building products shown in real-time 3D, on Unreal Engine.

Floor plan to 3D

With Merantix Labs: 2D floor plans turned into 3D models.

Takeoffs and estimates

The prototype also worked out material quantities and estimates.

What happened to VIRTUALhaus?

VIRTUALhaus reached a working product in internal testing and wound down when follow-on funding dried up.

Are you still working on building plans?

Yes. I'm building an AI assistant that reads building plans and works out material quantities, drawing on my Bauhaus and VIRTUALhaus years.
